BEAUFORT — This Carteret County town has earned additional time in the spotlight, ranking No. 4 on a travel magazine’s list of America’s favorite towns.

Travel + Leisure announced Wednesday its 2013 list of America’s Favorite Towns. Beaufort ranked fourth in the list of 22 towns and was the only town in the Carolinas to make the list. Beaufort is highlighted alongside small towns from Vermont to Utah.

“We are thrilled to have Beaufort once again recognized in such a prestigious publication,” said County Tourism Development Authority Director Carol Lohr. “We hope everyone wants to come and visit our charming historic town.”

The online list is expected to reach more than 636,000 unique visitors.

In 2012, Beaufort tied with Hammondsport, N.Y., as budgettravel.com’s “Coolest Small Town.” The town has also earned Yachting Magazine’s 2012 Best Yachting Town.

Established in 1709, Beaufort is the state’s third-oldest town and serves as county seat.
